Power & Energy Masters 2026: Hydrogen Without Illusions and the Path Towards Operational Deployment

Green Sustainable Solutions participated in the 17th Power & Energy Masters, held from 20–22 May 2026 in Petrčane. The event, organised by Energetika Marketing, once again gathered key representatives of the Croatian and regional energy sector to discuss the current state of energy, future investment directions, and the strategic challenges that will shape the coming years.

This year’s event provided an important overview of the Croatian energy landscape and its wider geopolitical context. Discussions covered new wind and solar energy projects, opportunities for Croatian companies in the energy transition, the growing relevance of nuclear energy, the increasing importance of data centre electricity supply and cooling, and the continued need to place energy efficiency at the centre of European energy policy.

A particularly relevant part of the programme was the hydrogen-focused roundtable titled “Vodik bez iluzija – tehnologija, investicije i realna tržišna spremnost”, moderated by Dinko Đurđević, CEO of Green Sustainable Solutions.

The roundtable gathered distinguished speakers and practitioners:

  • Danica Maljković, Indeloop
  • Simon Ferjuc, TetidaP2X
  • Matija Matijevac, Patria Composite
  • Tin Viduka, AltPro

The discussion was additionally supported by the presentation of Prof. Frane Barbir, who provided an expert perspective on hydrogen technologies, their current level of maturity, deployment potential and realistic market readiness. His contribution helped frame the discussion around one of the central questions for the sector: where hydrogen can create tangible technical, economic and strategic value today, and where additional development, regulation and investment are still required.

The overall atmosphere of the hydrogen discussion was realistic and implementation-oriented. While hydrogen is still often perceived through the lens of hype and long-term expectations, the roundtable showed that several pilots, initiatives and project pipelines are now moving closer to operational phases. This transition from strategic discussion to practical implementation is an important signal for the development of hydrogen value chains in Croatia and the wider region.

At the same time, the discussion clearly confirmed that the regulatory framework remains one of the main challenges for faster hydrogen deployment. Permitting, market rules, infrastructure planning, safety requirements, investment certainty and institutional coordination will all be decisive factors in determining how quickly hydrogen projects can move from pilot level to bankable and scalable business models.

For Green Sustainable Solutions, the discussion strongly reflects the company’s approach to hydrogen and sustainable energy project development. Hydrogen should not be treated as a standalone objective, but as part of a wider clean energy, industrial and regional development strategy. Its role must be defined through realistic use cases, strong partnerships, EU funding opportunities, investment readiness and alignment with regulatory developments.
