GSS Representatives Attend Expert Workshop on Hydrogen in Mobility and Maritime Transport

On 22 May 2026, David Čondić represented Green Sustainable Solutions (GSS) at the hybrid workshop “Vodik u mobilnosti i pomorskom prometu” (Hydrogen in Mobility and Maritime Transport), organised by the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) and Urbanex at HUB 385 in Zagreb. Linked to the TransH2 project, the event brought together experts to examine the regulatory framework, technological developments, and practical challenges of introducing hydrogen in Croatia’s mobility and maritime transport sectors.

Presentations were delivered by Vesna Kučan Polak from the Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency on the regulatory framework and opportunities in maritime transport, Professor Ankica Kovač from the University of Zagreb on the current state and future perspectives of hydrogen technologies in shipping, and Dražen Vrhovski from EERING on the role of the TransH2 project and implementation challenges in Croatian and regional mobility.

The GSS team gained valuable insights into several key issues. Discussions highlighted shortcomings in Croatia’s national hydrogen strategy, as well as the extremely high costs of hydrogen green production, which currently present a major obstacle to achieving economic sustainability. A notable takeaway was that the core technologies for hydrogen production, storage, and distribution have already been developed. The priority moving forward lies in further refining and scaling these existing solutions rather than pursuing entirely new concepts.

These insights will support GSS’s ongoing work in EU-funded energy projects and related activities in the field of sustainable solutions.
